pretty things no. 21

This weekend's edition of pretty things is inspired by my newly booked upcoming trip to London! We're going in the spring, first to London and then to Amsterdam for a few days and I couldn't be more excited. I'm already planning my outfits, which makes this the perfect topic for pretty things.

The number one item on my London outfit wish list was a sleeveless trench like this one from 3.1 Philip Lim. I'll be layering it over white tees and blouses for a polished look.

It seems like most travel packing lists involve a leather biker jacket because it's useful for so many climates and situations. I'm partial to beige biker jackets because they look lighter and make your outfit more luxurious.

To me, a pair of patent leather brogues is quintessentially British (just like a Burberry trench). They're a great masculine piece to pair with a feminine dress or blouse to give your look a little edge.

London weather can be unpredictable especially in the spring when a warm day can easily transition into a cool evening. I'll definitely be packing a lightweight scarf that will also add some femininity and color to my outfits.

When I'm in the city, I'm always sure to wear not only a sunscreen but a pollution blocking sunscreen like this one from Supergoop.

I've been mentioning how I plan on styling masculine pieces with feminine ones. This Burberry blouse is the perfect feminine piece to layer under a trench coat or with a pair of heavy brogues.

Finally, who would I be if I didn't recommend a pair of large sunglasses for travel? This black, angular pair from Le Specs will add a touch of glam to complete any look.

three beauty products on my counter right now

I used to write a lot more about beauty than I do these days. The truth is, I've been trying fewer products lately because I've gotten into a routine that I love. But if you need new recommendations, you're in luck because I've recently added three amazing new products to my routine. Like, life saver level products.

Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Clay Mask
Obsessed with this mask. It's a great clay texture that feels good on your skin and doesn't dry out. If I'm going somewhere 'special' (a date, an event) or plan on taking photos, I put this mask on about twenty minutes before I plan to do my makeup. After letting it sit for 15-20 minutes, remove with cold water and immediately do your makeup. I swear, this makes my skin look so glowy yet matte at the same time. It's brilliant!

BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel
I adore this tinted moisturizer. I've been using Dr. Jart or It Cosmetics for years now and randomly decided to give this a try instead per the recommendation of an Ulta employee. I'm so glad I did because it's my favorite. It's super light and literally doesn't feel like anything on your face. It looks really glowy and natural, plus it lasts all day long and it's hydrating so it's really good for your skin. For reference, I use the shade 'Ginger'.

Oribe Free Styler Hairspray
My stylist used this hairspray while she was doing my hair recently and I fell in love. It's a flex spray, so she used it throughout the styling process, not just at the end. In fact, she actually used the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray to finish instead. Before I use any hot tools, I spray this into my hair (flip your hair over and spray it up into the hair) and then I use a little bit afterwards as well. It's been so good at keeping my waves cute all day long in the humidity.

the weekend list no. 41

Happy Saturday! What did you all do this week? On one of my days off, my mom and I went shopping to find a new desk chair. We didn't end up finding one that I loved and I ended up ordering one from Home Depot instead, but we did go to Kirkland's (!!!) which seriously got us in the spirit for fall. I got a few things to nearly complete my desk makeover (the letter board and the little gray sign), now I'm just waiting for my chair to arrive and to go get a fall candle.

Also! I just got a new pair of Lululemon leggings, which has me pretty excited. It's the little things, guys.... Haha.

my summer evening routine

First of all, how cute is this Spirited Away teacup I found at Barnes & Noble?

I don't know about you, but I still love hearing about people's daily routines. There's always something interesting to take away whether it's a new product or an idea for a ritual to add to your own routine. I think it's become quite the fascination among most people, so I'm here with the evening routine that I've been following for most of this summer. This particular routine is for a work night, so it's not the same as if I were going out but I think this kind is honestly the most realistic kind to share!

6:30 PM // This is typically when I get home from work most nights, unless I have an event. Since it's summer and inevitably hot outside, I immediately take a shower as soon as I get home. I'll also go ahead and put all of my things away to avoid clutter building up.

6:45 PM // After showering, I'll change into comfier clothes. Lately it's been my favorite pair of black, Lauren Conrad leggings with a really cute, white halter bralette from Aerie and this thin, oversized tee from Alexander Wang. I've worn it so much, there are holes in the elbows but they actually look kind of cool. I'll put on my fluffy slippers or a cute pair of socks and go downstairs to eat dinner.

7:30 PM // After I've eaten dinner, I usually like to read or play a quick board game.

8:00 PM // I don't watch a ton of TV, but if one of the shows I do watch is on, this is usually around the time I'll start watching it. Lately, it's been The Bachelorette on Mondays and World of Dance on Wednesdays. If none of my shows are on, I might watch something on Netflix like an episode of Madam Secretary or Somebody Feed Phil or my new favorite, Castle Rock, on Hulu. Otherwise, I'd just continue reading.

8:30 PM // If I feel like having a treat, I like to make two different kinds of popcorn. One is a dairy-free buttery, cheesy mix and the other is the most delicious caramel recipe from Pick Up Limes. Other times, I'll have a cup of tea or maybe a creamier smoothie.

9:30 PM // This is typically the time that I'll go upstairs and to my skincare routine for the night. I start by washing my face with the Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser then follow up with my go-to Embryolisse lait creme concentrate. Some nights, I'll use my face steamer and other nights, I'll use an exfoliating scrub such as the Mario Badescu Botanical Exfoliating Scrub or this one from Acure. If I'm feeling luxurious, I'll do a sheet mask or put on my favorite Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask. Afterwards, I brush my teeth and use my Cocofloss. Lastly, I moisturize my body either with coconut oil or a body lotion like Kiehl's creme de corps. If I feel like it, I'll put a little dry shampoo in my hair to let it soak in while I sleep.

9:45 PM // Most of the time, I do yoga in the morning but lately, I've really enjoyed doing 15-20 minutes of practice in the evening right before I go to sleep. Yoga With Adriene has some great evening routines.

10:00 PM // Around this time, I'll keep winding down. I light a candle or turn on my diffuser and switch on my Himalayan salt lamp. Most nights, I'll take about five drops of CBD oil then lay down to listen to a podcast. My favorite chill podcasts to listen to at night are Oprah's Super Soul Conversations, Off Camera with Sam Jones, and Harry Potter & The Sacred Text. Although, I always make sure to put on the sleep timer because I rarely make it more than 15-20 minutes into a podcast without falling asleep if I start listening at night.

what's in my summer makeup bag

Recently, I found myself in need of a larger cosmetics case to hold my makeup and beauty products and luckily found the loveliest one from Pottery Barn. It comes in this beautiful plum blossom print with mint-and-white striped lining on the inside. There are two big, transparent pouches that are more than big enough to hold everything I need.

My organization method is that I store most of my beauty items in this big case and use a smaller one to store just the few things I need when I'm on the go. The contents of the smaller bag change depending on the products I used on that particular day.

So, what's in my bag for the summer?

Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Cucumber & Green Tea - I've been using either the rose or green tea Mario Badescu sprays forever now and will keep doing so! I use this as a refreshing spritz on hot days, to set my makeup, and to dampen my beauty blender.

Drybar Triple Sec 3-in-1 Spray - This is a combination of volumizing spray, texturizing spray, and dry shampoo. It's all the products you need for your hair in one and it smells so good.

Glossier Haloscope in Quartz - I just tried this for the first time and love it! It creates a really subtle, pretty highlight.

Glossier Boy Brow in Blonde - I typically use Anastasia Brow Wiz but I've switched back to Boy Brow in order to have a bit of a messier brow look for summer.

Anastasia Glow Kit in GleamOne of the best powder highlighting kits I've tried. There are four different shades for different looks.

Tarte In Bloom PaletteMy go-to eye palette is perfect for summer. Sometimes, I just use one shade (Funny Girl) all over my lid for a no-makeup look.

L'Oreal True Match Powder - I actually use this drugstore powder as a bronzer. I simply bought it in a shade darker than my skintone.

Karl Lagerfeld Baked Blush - Not sure where I got this or if it's still available to buy anywhere, but it's such a good blush that doubles as a highlighter.

It Cosmetics Bye-Bye Under Eye Concealer - My mom introduced me to this amazing concealer. It's for under eyes but I use it on blemishes too. It's crazy how little goes a long way.

Diorshow Waterproof MascaraStill haven't found the perfect mascara that doesn't smudge, but I really like Diorshow. The brush is really fat which creates thick lashes.

Sephora Collection Bright Future Skin Tint - Love this BB cream from Sephora Collection. It's very liquid-y and you can barely feel it on your skin.

Lavanila Lemon Vanilla DeodorantThis is my all-time favorite natural deodorant. It's long lasting and the scent is so good.

Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask - I'm still obsessed with this mask. It's one of the best beauty products I've ever used and always makes my skin look so glowy!

Glossier Balm Dot Com in CoconutA favorite that never gets old! The scent is perfectly tropical.

Nyx Lip Lingerie - This newish line from Nyx has lots of great nude shades and the product doesn't feel sticky on your lips. It's my new go-to lip product for summer.

Fresh Sugar Dream Advanced Lip Therapy - I love my Fresh lip products and this one is especially good because it just gives a very light tint, so it's impossible to make it look messy.

Sephora Collection #LipStories in First Class - The whole #LipStories collection is great. Very concentrated color and long-lasting formula. The color First Class is a really gorgeous red-orange.
