Monse: La Femme Moderne

I recently got an email from Net-a-Porter introducing eight new designers whose collections will soon be available for purchase on the site. As I was looking through their websites and collections, I obviously noticed how beautiful the clothes were but was also quite impressed by each designer's specific branding. It's fascinating to see a collection and the designer's accompanying media presence and be able to discern exactly the kind of girl they are designing for. Or better yet, the kind of lifestyle they are promoting.

This inspired me to put together some of my own mood boards and shopping lists for these amazing up and coming designers. This first post will focus on the brand Monse which is designed by former Oscar de la Renta designers Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia.

Who's Wearing It?
The chic intelligentsia---Amal Clooney, Allison Williams, Sarah Jessica Parker, Leandra Medine

Who Should be Wearing it?
Marion Cotillard.

In the Spring/Summer 2016 Monse collection, we saw a modern take on femininity. There were billowing skirts, cropped blouses, and enough black-and-white stripes to make me very happy. I see the collection as a menswear-inspired take on evening. It reminds me of the stories of Audrey Hepburn wearing a man's white button-down wrapped twice around her waist and tied in the back. The woman in a man's shirt has become an iconic image but here, it's translated into something fresh and a bit formal.

The overall feeling of the collection evokes images of relaxed elegance and Truman Capote's Black and White Ball. A French ingenue disrupting New York society. The voluminous gowns and luxe fabrics seem to fall on the side of glamour but they ideas are easily translated into a few fresh ideas for your office wardrobe. Pair a silk, striped blouse with black gabardine trousers and a black shoe. Or try a deconstructed shirt DIY
