The Swim Season

I'm excited about an upcoming trip home to Florida and looking forward to a lot of swimming, ice-cream cones, poolside reading, and other idyllic-sounding beach vacation ideas. To get in the spirit, I bought a new gingham swimsuit from J.Crew to wear with and without my favorite navy-and-white striped rashguard also from J.Crew (similar).

I love the idea of wearing the new swimsuit under a white off-the-shoulder top with a pair of leather sandals, tortoise-shell sunglasses, and a raffia tote bag filled with my favorite Clarins sunscreen, books, and magazines.

While I will likely be reading something from the Inspector Gamache series, I have some other books on my list that are perfect for poolside reading. Maine by J. Courtney Sullivan is about a preppy family on the beach. The Prince George Diaries by Clare Bennett, written from the perspective of toddler Prince George, is too absurd to pass up. Elena Ferrante's My Brilliant Friend has a huge waiting list at the library, so I may just have to buy it. Betty Halbreich's memoir I'll Drink To That: A Life in Style, With a Twist is all about being a Bergdorf's personal shopper. Finally, Steven Millhauser's collection of short stories Voices in the Night sounds compelling, plus the black-and-white striped cover makes it a great accessory.

Where did you find your favorite swimsuit?
