5 Podcasts to Subscribe to This Week

If I had to guess, I would say that I spend about 45% of my day listening to podcasts. Whether it is in the car, while cleaning or cooking, taking a bath, or just laying down before bed, there tends to be a podcast playing in the background. Because of this high demand, I am always searching to subscribe to new podcasts when my playlist runs dry. Here are the five that I have been enjoying lately.

Pardon My French
Favorite episode: La Parisienne with Caroline de Maigret & Isabel Marant
Pardon My French is a podcast from everyone's favorite French blogger/illustrator Garance Doré. The episodes come in two formats every Thursday---either an interview or a group talk amongst her team. I love this particular episode because it brings together my three favorite French girls---Garance, Caroline de Maigret, and Isabel Marant. You can't miss this episode if you are even remotely intrigued by French girl culture.

Strong Opinions Loosely Held
Favorite episode: The Kardashian Industrial Komplex
This podcast from Refinery29 covers topics centered around various issues regarding women in Western society. While I am happy to listen to beliefs or comments I disagree with, podcasts of this nature are often unpleasant and pretty grating for me so I tend to avoid them. This one, however, strikes a a good balance so long as you take what is being said with a grain of salt. I loved the Kardashian episode, as it put into words my frustration with the aggressive hatred spewed against them.

The Simple Show
Favorite episode: Big City Simple Living
Although I'm new to The Simple Show, I am already loving this podcast. Tsh Oxenreider hosts creative and thought-provoking episodes about what it means to live simply and all the iterations of lifestyle simplicity. I loved a recent episode in which Tsh discussed living simply in New York with Kristen Kill, a writer living in Manhattan with her husband and four, soon-to-be five children (!!!) which is pretty unheard of.

Happier with Gretchen Rubin
Favorite episode: Design Your Summer
Gretchen Rubin, author of The Happiness Project, hosts this podcast with her screenwriter sister Elizabeth Craft. The podcast often focuses on Gretchen Rubin's four personality type schema (obligers, upholders, questioners, and rebels) and how those types of personalities work in different situations. I'm part of the Rebel group, so it's unsurprising that I'm not usually drawn to anything that reeks of "self-help". This podcast doesn't. Gretchen and Elizabeth go about their discussions is a way that is appealing to all personality types.

Material World
Favorite episode: Craft is Dead. Long Live Craft.
This podcast from Bloomberg is very new (only two episodes) but I'm excited to hear more. The first episode discussed the business and economics of the "craft" industry, most specifically talking with the Hanson brothers about their craft beer company, aptly named MmmHops.
