As tomorrow is the first official day of autumn, it's time to switch out the seasonal decor and transform our homes in to cozy little comfort dens. I like to begin with flowers, replacing white hydrangeas with flowers in warm tones and earthy green foliage. Terrain has a beautiful selection of autumnal flowers and decor.
Fall Flowers for Arrangements
As for decor, keep things simple with a clean color scheme. A color palette pattern I tend to follow through all four seasons is to choose one neutral, one metallic, and one accent color.
Fall Color Palettes
Neutral: White, Black, Gray, Beige, Cognac, Camel
Metallic: Gold, Silver, Bronze, Copper, Rose Gold
Accent: Burnt Orange, Aubergine, Emerald, Navy
Use your color palette to help guide your decor selections, but also focus a lot on texture. Texture combinations can be selected by using the pattern of organic, soft, and hard. By using this combination to create vignettes, you will create a nice balance in your design.
Organic: Wood, Plants, Stones
Soft: Cable Knit, Fur, Velvet
Hard: Metal, Hardware, Glass
An example of a combination using this pattern could be placing a fur throw on your couch next to an end table with a wooden tray and a mercury candelabra. Another example is a few eucalyptus branches placed in a hammered copper vase on the coffee table and a cable knit throw pillow on the couch.
The focus for fall decor is to ensure the highest level of coziness. Use texture, color, and scent to build a warm room full of positive energy. Burn candles constantly and keep the lighting low. Fill the space with fragrances that feature vanilla, cinnamon, oud, and sandalwood. Take inspiration from the harvest by decorating with little objets d'art inspired by gourds, pumpkins, and branches. For fun, add in a few high-end Halloween inspired items like faux crows, witch brooms, and a ceramic skull vase.
