It was announced a few weeks ago that the sculptural wild punk demon vibe that Rei Kawakubo perfected will be the focus of the 2017 Met Gala and accompanying exhibition at the Costume Institute. After the slight disappointment of the Manus x Machina theme which I thought would be so cool, I am utterly enthralled by the fact that Commes de Garcons will be celebrated. I hope that attendees of the gala, in an ode to the rebellious spirit of Kawakubo, break out of their own molds and free from the tethers of societal expectations be they aesthetic, financial, reputational, or otherwise. I want Karlie Kloss to go goth and I want someone to have spikes. To me, this will be what the 2013 punk gala wished it could be.
Personally, I'd do something like health goth meets industrial luxe with a black slip of a dress and heavy flatform boots. I'd start with big, structural, cocoon of a coat either from Balenciaga or Vetements but it would inevitably come off. The beauty look could go one of two ways---either a full, crystal face mask a la Maison Margiela or a wet, braided look with nude alien makeup and cheeks adorned with spikes.
