I'm finding it hard to believe that summer is nearing its end. That's especially true since I've been spending time in Florida where the heat isn't going away. So, I'm keeping up with my summer beauty routine in the midst of back-to-school season, even though Pumpkin Spice Lattes are already back on the Starbucks menu (can you believe that?!) and September is quickly approaching.
There's no doubt that summertime requires a specific set of beauty rituals to protect your skin, body, and hair from the elements. Here's the routine I stick to in the summer months:
The product I'm using the most this summer is the Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herb, and Rose Water. I use it at multiple points throughout the day starting in the morning when I cleanse my face. I spritz this on my face, then follow up by cleansing with Caudalie's Cleansing Milk.
After rinsing with cold water, I follow up with a trio of products from The Ordinary. First, I use the Buffet serum (every morning and evening), the Advanced Retinoid 2% (every other evening), and Hyaluronic Acid (every morning and evening). Then, I moisturize with Embryolisse or with La Roche-Posay's Double Repair Moisturizer if I'm going to be out in the sun. To keep my lips hydrated, I finish up with Smith's Rosebud Salve.
About once a week, I use Mario Badescu's Silver Powder. This mask is amazing, you guys. It contains only three ingredients: kaolin, calcium carbonate, and titanium dioxide. It starts in powder form and you apply it to your face with a wet cotton round. Let it sit for 10 minutes and it turns back into an easy-to-remove powder, leaving your skin feeling clean, super soft and matte without any tightness.
In order for my skin to hold a light tan, I make sure to keep it exfoliated by using the Himalaya Scrub from Rituals. I've mentioned this product before...it smells beautiful and has a really nice, soft texture.
Then, I use Weleda Skin Food to moisturize all over. Remember when I mentioned that I wasn't a fan of this as a face moisturizer? Well, I've recently found that it works wonders for dry legs and even for minor kitchen burns (haha).
In the evenings, I apply my St. Tropez Gradual Tanning Lotion to help maintain a healthy glow so that I can avoid spending too much time in the sun getting a tan. But, when I do venture out to the pool for an hour or two, I use Supergoop SPF 50 Sunscreen Mist on my shoulders, back, chest, arms, and stomach and Clarins Spray Solaire SPF 30 on my legs to allow for a bit more of a tan.
At any time throughout the year, you guys know I'm using my Function of Beauty custom formulation shampoo and conditioner. This keeps my hair soft and healthy while providing a little bit of volume which is great for summer hairstyles like beachy waves and textured top knots. Every night, I brush out my hair with my Aveda Paddle Brush to keep it from getting tangled.
About once a week, I'll use the Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt to exfoliate and cleanse my scalp. It smells amazing and makes your hair feel so clean after lots of exposure to the sun, seawater, and chlorine.
