It’s December! That means you now officially have entertaining tips for every month of the year. This is my last monthly entertaining tips post in this format because, going into 2019, I really want to switch things up. You’ll still get an entertaining tips post every month but it’ll look and feel different.
December, of course, is all about holiday entertaining. This is probably the most popular month for entertaining and often the most stressful. I promise you it doesn’t have to be that way! Entertaining should be relaxed and all about getting family and friends together to enjoy each other’s company, not stressing over complicated details. Here are my tips for throwing a beautiful, memorable, yet stress-free event this December.
Make It Easy: Turn dessert into a collective effort.
I feel like sweets are such a big element of holiday parties, right? But with all the appetizers and drinks you’re preparing, offering multiple fun desserts might just add to much to your plate. A fun idea is to add the element of a cookie swap to your party. Have your friends bring their favorite holiday cookie or dessert. That way, it’s less work for you and they get to show off their personal traditions.
Drink of Choice: Pomegranate Rosemary Spritzer
If you ask me, a punch is always the way to go for big parties. It requires minimal effort and is always a crowd pleaser. For a holiday party, I really like the idea of a pomegranate rosemary spritzer made with prosecco, peach schnapps, lemon, mango soda, rosemary, and pomegranate seeds.
Hostess Gift: Stovetop Simmer
One of my very favorite tricks for the holidays is putting a fragrant simmer pot on the stove to make my house smell like Christmas. This is something you can do during your party that also makes for a really great gift either for your guests or the hostess of a party you’re going to. My favorite blend is a orange peel, one or two cinnamon sticks, and a couple of cloves. Put this in a cute little bag, then the recipient just has to pour it into a small pot with water on low heat.
Easy Appetizer: Cranberry Brie Bites
I’m sorry but brie will always be the best go-to appetizer ingredient because it’s always incredibly delicious and you can do so many things with it. Give the traditional baked brie a stepped up holiday twist by baking it in small rectangles of puff pastry with cranberry sauce. Oh my god, I want this right now just thinking about it!
Decor Staple: Fairy Lights
If you want to set a cozy atmosphere with minimal effort and money spent, there’s one thing you need to do. If you can only do one thing to decorate, hang up fairy lights in your space or in your backyard. These will automatically transform your space into something so magical and cozy that will put your guests at ease and look really pretty in photos.
Outfit Idea: You can always go the traditional route of red and green, plaid and nubby knits, but this year, I’m really into a chic, sophisticated look for the holidays. Try a pair of comfy, black wide-leg trousers with a neutral, slightly metallic camisole. Then, layer over a tailored white blazer and pull it all together with a black pump that has some kind of special element, whether it be a bow or embroidery or some kind of sparkle.
