If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen that I'm in the process of transitioning all of my skincare and the majority of my makeup to clean beauty brands. I wanted to share a bit of this process with you guys since it's a popular topic. My methodology right now is to continue using the products I have until they run out and then replacing them one-by-one from that point on.
What do I consider clean? Any product that scores a 1-2 (low hazard) on the EWG database is the most desirable to me . The search for clean beauty is made really easy by stores like Credo, who only stock products that use safe, sustainable, and ethically sourced ingredients. It makes shopping for beauty products a no-brainer because you know that everything in the store has been thoroughly vetted. They also offer a clean swap program where you can bring in the products you use and they'll help you match them to comparable products from clean brands. If you're shopping elsewhere, I highly recommend checking the products on the EWG Database.
So far, here are the switches I've made:
Cleanser: Juice Beauty Cleansing Milk
I am absolutely obsessed with this cleanser. Ever since I started using it, my skin has looked and felt clean, glowing, and blemish-free. It is formulated with grape seed oil (similar to Caudalie), neroli, chamomile, and calendula which makes it super gentle and calming for your skin. It's EWG score is 1, the best score you can get.
Moisturizer: January Labs Moisture Balancing Lotion
I blind tested two moisturizers from Credo and this is the one that I much preferred. It's a gel texture so a small amount spreads really well across your entire face and chest. It's very, very hydrating and has completely changed my winter skin for the better. The formula includes the very best hydrating ingredients like squalane, shea butter, green tea extract, aloe extract, avocado oil, chamomile, linseed oil, and olive oil.
Makeup Remover Wipes: Acure Clarifying Makeup Wipes
You guys know I love my Sephora coconut wipes (which I may still use from time to time) but these makeup wipes from Acure are great too and don't irritate my skin. Not only do they remove your makeup but these also contain glycolic acid and willow bark extract to help boost cell turnover, decongest pores, and heal sun damage. They contain a small amount of salicylic acid to help prevent breakouts.
Body Wash: Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Soap
This isn't a new product to me at all. In fact, I've been using Dr. Bronner's pretty consistently for many years but hadn't bought a new bottle recently as I had been craving a body wash with a creamy, lotion texture. Now that I've run out of my Dove body wash, I've switched back to the peppermint Dr. Bronner's. This product really is a gem. It's one of the cleanest products you'll find and can also be used for cleaning your house so it really pulls double duty.
