the drugstore beauty guide

Happy Wednesday! You guys know I'm all about high-end and natural/organic skincare, but I actually have found quite a few drugstore products that I love over the years. Especially recently, drugstore brands have really been stepping it up.

In fact, a few years ago I worked on the beauty team for the grocery channel (very similar product mix compared to drugstores) for a large consumer packaged goods company and had the chance to see what goes into the development of these kinds of products. They really do take inspiration from the higher end brands on the market.

Here are a few of my favorite products you can pick up at the drugstore, grocery, or other super accessible places like Target.

BODY:
Dove 'Purely Pampering' Body Wash - Coconut Milk with Jasmine Petals
This body wash smells so good and comes in a huge bottle that lasts forever. The scent I use is Coconut Milk with Jasmine Petals but there are a few other options as well. As with all Dove products, this is dermatologist tested, gentle on the skin, and has shea butter to soften your skin.

Weleda Skin Food
I've heard someone compare this lotion to La Mer and, while the texture is different, I can see the similarities. I don't love this as a face moisturizer but for body, it's amazing. My legs get super dry, especially in the winter, and this has been the only product that really gets my skin moisturized. In fact, it's so good that I've used it on a burn before.

SKIN:
Embryolisse Moisturizer
So, this is a little harder to find in your average drugstore but you can sometimes find it at Target or a Walgreens in the city. It's a French girl staple and such a good moisturizer. I will say it's not super "special", it's more of a basic moisturizer along the lines of CeraVe but it's great for what it is and highly recommended if you don't need a treated moisturizer but just something simple and easy.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios 50 Mineral Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid
La Roche-Posay makes all of my favorite sunscreens. It can be hard to find a good face sunscreen that doesn't feel too oily or smell like the beach, but this is a great option. It sets into your skin nicely and is 100% mineral with SPF 50.

MAKEUP:
Nyx Concealer in a Jar
A makeup artist mentioned that this Nyx concealer is similar to the Glossier Stretch Concealer so I decided to try it out and it's great! You can use a concealer brush or just apply it with your ring finger to cover blemishes, dark circles, or to touch up red spots.

HAIR:
OGX Coconut Milk Shampoo + Conditioner
My typical hair M.O. is to rotate between a higher-end product from brands like Moroccanoil, Aveda, and Christophe Robin and a simple drugstore shampoo/conditioner set like this one from OGX. I love OGX because while it is a drugstore brand, it's still sulfate and paraben free. There are a ton of different variations, including an argan oil set that's a cheaper version of Moroccanoil (nothing compares to the real thing but it's still good). My favorite is the Coconut Milk (sensing a trend) because of the scent and the fact that it makes my hair smooth but not weighed down.

L'Oreal Extraordinary Clay Hair Mask
I tried a sample of this awhile back and was actually shocked by how good it was. It's a pre-shampoo mask that you apply to your hair in the shower, let it sit for five minutes, then rinse out before going on with your usual cleansing and conditioning routine. This made my hair feel so soft and look amazing. Highly recommend!

SPA:
Miss Spa Bubble Mask
I'm obsessed with this mask, guys. It's the kind of sheet mask that oxidizes and bubbles up all over your face. If you have oily skin or want your skin to feel super clean, try this out.

Dr. Teal's Foaming Bath
I'm a big fan of all Dr. Teal's products, really. The bath salts are great and this foaming bath feels so healthy and luxurious. There are several different scents like lavender for a relaxing bath, ginger and clay for detox, chamomile for tired muscles, and pink Himalayan salt for replenishing minerals.

NAILS:
CND Solar Speed Spray Polish Dryer
I mentioned this before on the blog because this product is a total game changer. If you're anything like me, you mess up your nails almost immediately after painting them. When I got a manicure at Red Door last month, they used this spray at the end and it literally had my nails dry and touchable in under thirty seconds.

Essie Nail Polish
I love OPI too but Essie has quickly become my favorite nail brand. My go-to is Ballet Slippers but I also love Blue-La-La, Color Binge, and Cabana Boy. All of their products apply easily, last long, and come with a great quality brush.
